Convincing Colonies Project
Close your eyes and allow yourself to rewind back hundreds of years to a time where America was merely a set of British colonies. Take a breath and imagine smelling the salty air and the feeling of excitement in your body as you just were about to land in America for the first time. However, what you saw in front of you when you opened your eyes would largely differ depending on the colony you landed in. While numbers show that the population rose from 250,000 people to 250,000,000 from 1690 to 1754 in the British colonies, life was very different depending on the region and colony.
Now open your eyes and begin to think, which colony would you chose? Which colony would reign supreme in your eyes? What are some ways you could be convinced to go to a particular colony? In this webquest, YOU will be in charge of convincing settlers to come to one of the 13 colonies! Now it's your time to be CONCISE, CREATIVE, and most importantly CONVINCING!
Driving Question: How can we as a class create commercials informing a viewer what life was like in the thirteen colonies for an online audience?
Task: You have been assigned to promote one of the thirteen colonies. You has been hired to attract immigrants and inform others about your colony including its resources, economy, religion, and individuals' reasons for settling.
The webquest will be completed in the following order:
1. RESEARCH: You will begin your colony research using research links from the Internet to investigate
and complete a Google Document with all the research listed below.
2. SHARE: Once your research is complete, you will start to develop a script using elements of persuasion to help convince individuals to settle in your colony.
Post your video on FlipGrid using this link:https://flip.com/f05d61fd
7. VOTING: Finally, all videos will be posted allowing others to vote on the colony they would choose to reside in.
